A tailgate detector is a powerful enhancement to your access control system, designed to detect and prevent someone from following an authorised cardholder through a secured door without presenting a valid access card. Tailgating poses a significant security risk, and our system helps eliminate this by accurately tracking the number of individuals passing through the door.

How It Works

The tailgate detector utilises a people-counting camera installed on the ceiling on the secure side of the door. A virtual line is set up to detect anyone entering the facility. Each time a valid card is presented at the access reader, the system records the entry. However, if more people cross the virtual count line than valid cards are presented, the system recognises the tailgating attempt and triggers an alarm.

Notably, our system is smart enough to ignore individuals exiting in the opposite direction, focusing solely on preventing unauthorised entries.

This means that members cannot simply swipe their card multiple times to allow someone else to follow them in undetected. The system ensures that each card swipe corresponds to one authorised entry.
